Disney Princess Designer Collection Speculation

On Tuesday, the photos of the remaining five dolls and the D23 Exclusive Silver Cinderella could be found on the Disney Store website. Disney Stores are recalling all dolls back to the warehouse. The Cinderella and Belle dolls have disappeared from the UK Disney Store. There are new banners on the US Disney Store Designer Collection page.

I think this means they're going to change the release schedule in addition to how the dolls are sold. Previously, they would only upload the pictures a few days before the doll would go on sale. However, I think things are still very up in the air right now, and the appearance of the picture might not mean anything. I don't think the Disney Store has decided exactly what it's going to do, but I'm getting the feeling it's going to be more than just limiting one doll per customer.

In other news, the Snow White compact went on sale yesterday at the Disney Store unannounced and sold out in about two hours.

Previous Disney Princess Designer Collection Posts

ETA: The Snow White doll did not go on sale yesterday. I misunderstood a post about the compact and wrongly reported that the doll had become available and sold out. I sincerely apologize for the misinformation.

Maybe they are going to be sold online exclusively?
kangofu: Designer Girlskangofu on September 22nd, 2011 06:21 pm (UTC)
I wonder if they would release all the dolls at once. It might distract the rabid eBay buyers long enough so everyone else could get one.

I'm curious why Silver Cinderella is there. I thought she was sold out at D23?
Abigail: Disney Princess Designer Collectionmdmbrightside on September 22nd, 2011 06:37 pm (UTC)
That's what I'm inclined to believe. It'll be hard on anyone who wants to collect the whole series, though.

I have no idea why Silver Cinderella is there - I really doubt she's going to be sold. She supposedly sold out at D23 as there were only 250 dolls made.
kangofu: Designer Girlskangofu on September 22nd, 2011 06:43 pm (UTC)
They had better not release them all of a sudden without previous announcement. I will be pissed if I miss Jasmine.

Abigail: Disney Princess Designer Collectionmdmbrightside on September 22nd, 2011 06:48 pm (UTC)
Oh, they'll announce it all right. They already have way too much egg on their face/way, way too many unhappy customers from the Collection. Keep an eye on the Disney Store Blog - they'll make any announcements there first.
kangofu: Designer Girlskangofu on September 22nd, 2011 06:53 pm (UTC)
That's a good point.

I wonder if they'd do a "second wave." Identical dolls, just more of them. Around Christmas.

.....Nah, probably not.

Me too. She is my favorite!

If they're going to sell online exclusively, they should release a certain number at different times of the day, and all the dolls should be available at the same time. Also, their site needs to keep an accurate count of dolls available.
Abigail: Disney Princess Designer Collectionmdmbrightside on September 22nd, 2011 06:39 pm (UTC)
They might even stagger the selling times and amounts: "We're going to sell X number of dolls at X'o'clock, and tomorrow/next week we'll sell more."

In a lot of the Twitter apologies the Disney Store Pres has been doing he's focused on the failure of the software/computers that oversold Snow White, so I think that's definitely going to be fixed.
Andrea Pendragonext_785293 on September 22nd, 2011 06:45 pm (UTC)
If a silver Cinderella is released I will buy her. On the fence about Aurora...she seems to have a huge forehead when I saw her in the store...otherwise I have the dolls I want so far.
月影のエーフィ: *disney* Mulan - Close Uptsuki_no_eifie on September 22nd, 2011 07:10 pm (UTC)
Yea, that's pretty much what I meant. :)

If they're going to keep selling them online, they will have no choice but to fix the software.

Pocahontas looks too Latino to me. The essential things that make Pocahontas Pocahontas are missing. Like her necklace for one. Her outfit is also just godly and looks nothing like a redesigned version of her normal outfit.

I really want Jasmine, and maybe Rapunzel. I hope I don't miss them :\

Ok wait a minute Disney...how about fulfilling some/all of those orders that were CANCELED than sneak more Snow White dolls for sale on your website??? How can they over sell if they did have more??? That is messed up.
kangofu: HDU INTERNETS!!kangofu on September 22nd, 2011 09:45 pm (UTC)
I'm guessing they are from the stores. But still, why they didn't use them to fill the orders that were cancelled is an excellent question... =/

Yeah! What the heck is that about?!

that is ridiculous! I totally agree with you.

@ainominap No, I don't feel that's fair. Each country has its own limited number of dolls to sell, and the UK dolls have been selling like hotcakes. The US got more dolls than any other country selling them, which is fair enough, as it's such a massive place- but other countries shouldn't have to send their stock over there if there is still sufficient demand for them in those countries. I ordered Belle from the UK site and I'm just praying the order has gone through :(

Some days they were available to buy, but plenty of other days I went on and it said the doll was 'currently unavailable'. The French site had exactly the same stocks at all times as the UK one, I think it just depends on the shipments they're getting in. I emailed a Disney store rep last week about Ariel and Mulan. She said they were definitely expecting more of those dolls in stock within the next few weeks, and that they had received many more stocks of Cinderellas and Belles than Ariels and Mulans, because Disney had mistakenly believed that As and Ms would be less popular.

Yup, I'm 100% sure there is! Disney are currently deciding what to do about the next dolls, and they're still trying to help those people whose dolls have been oversold or those countries which have not received sufficient dolls. They've withdrawn the remaining stock off the UK and French sites until a decision has been made as to how to sell the dolls as fairly as possible, but I think once that decision has been reached, you'll see pretty much all of the old stock reappearing on the sites.

Where did you see those dolls at the german store?
I've seen nothing that is related to the dolls at all :/

Where are these pictures visible?
taoayumu: Flynn and Rapunzel taoayumu on September 22nd, 2011 10:22 pm (UTC)
I think it's a good idea to sell the rest of the dolls at once. It gives some people a chance to get their favorites at least.
Ochibaochibawolf on September 22nd, 2011 11:55 pm (UTC)
I REALLY hope they do not change the release of the rest of the dolls to online only. I love going to the store and being able to pick out which one I want. A lot of the dolls have problems(like hair out of place, or paint on their eyes) so I'd want to be able to go to a Disney store and pick out which one I like. I've collected all so far, driving 2.5 hours to the closest Disney store early, to get them. It was really hard last monday, as I had to outrun 6 middle-aged men for Snow white. I was able to get a Snow white, but running against grown men for dolls is insane.
genforever246genforever246 on September 23rd, 2011 03:38 am (UTC)
Why would 6 grown men try to get them? And wow, I did not know Snowy was that popular. I thought she was the least liked.
shiraz_kun: Sailor Pluto Henshinshiraz_kun on September 23rd, 2011 01:11 am (UTC)
-agrees with Ochibawolf- Last monday was indeed insane and not something that 4 traveling girls should have to put up with. =/

I hope whatever the Disney Store comes up with is a good choice. I'd be ok with limiting one per customer (I'd just miss out on getting to of Jasmine and Pocahontas. If I was able to that is. Lol.) But I hope they don't limit it to online only. that's just crazy. ><" People will have their ways of getting around the online sales where they'd prolly be able to get more than two!
shiraz_kunshiraz_kun on September 23rd, 2011 01:12 am (UTC)
That and with these dolls... Picking one out in person is a must!
biqadoll on September 23rd, 2011 01:42 am (UTC)
Here's a thought:

Maybe they will just release a larger number of the things so people don't have to race old people in the mall or buy them from scalpers on ebay.

Anyway, I'm sure that they'll think of something. What disgusts me most isn't really the mistakes that have happened on the part of Disney. I don't think they anticipated this much interest in the dolls. What's sadder is how badly people want these things, and the reaction that people have to that fact. (Scalpers, etc).

Honestly, I don't know what I'd do if I were in Disney's shoes. Definitly fix the web site problems. But maybe I'd release a whole ton of the dolls so people can at least calm the heck down over them.

Actually, they could even just release a cheaper version of the dolls, or even just the outfits maybe? That would leave the collection for the collectors and everybody else could still enjoy the unique new designs too. : )
genforever246genforever246 on September 23rd, 2011 03:36 am (UTC)
Yeah, why can't they make these like pink label barbies? I mean they are collectible pieces but there are no limits to them. The holiday dolls are an example. They are totally collectible and high quality so why not make these?
genforever246genforever246 on September 23rd, 2011 03:34 am (UTC)
Wow I'm really glad that they sold my three favorites right before this. I would have been fairly angry if they didn't.
hanepoohanepoo on September 23rd, 2011 03:58 am (UTC)
Oh man! If they actually have a few Silver Cinderella to sell, I am going to have to do everything I can to get her.
I want many of the remaining dolls so I really can't wait till we get the blog news tomorrow to find out when the dolls are back and, hopefully, which one is next!
Mel: aurora concept birdcroft_time on September 23rd, 2011 02:18 pm (UTC)
Well, hopefully this might work out better for everyone, and give others a fair chance to get one of the dolls.

Can't see the Silver Cinderella being in stock anymore, but if she is, I'm gonna totally try and get one.

Really? I like this idea but fudge, I have something to do on the 18th. Maybe I'll be moving it...
SJcrimsongypsy on September 23rd, 2011 07:36 pm (UTC)
This is all just so silly. I decided to stay away from the princess dolls as I'm currently poor (though ariel did tempt me) and I think I'm glad I did.
I don't see how releasing them all on one day's going to solve anything. Scalpers suck, ebay sucks, but it's bound to happen when you limit quantities. People want rare things but then get pissed when they can't have them b/c some person bought 6 dolls just to sell. It sucks for those that really want the product just to have it (I just went through this with Darkwing Duck Vinylmation. I wanted one, just for me and was about 20 people out when they stopped with wristbands).
Disney Store's done limited dolls before and never had a problem. I don't get what the issue is this time (but lord am I glad I'm not working there currently)

How did you find these pictures???
Ashley Brownladydemando on September 25th, 2011 06:47 am (UTC)
While I wish I had a job and was rich enough to purchase these dolls, I'm perfectly content with having the entire mug collection.
hanepoohanepoo on September 29th, 2011 06:49 am (UTC)
I am kind of hoping the silver cinderella will be a "surprise" doll that some stores/online might get. Maybe they had a few left and were deciding how best to sell them? I wonder why else that image would be put up?
