The Snow Queen Returns!

Good news, everyone! The Snow Queen is back on, being produced by Walt Disney Animated Studios and going to be released on November 27, 2013!

However, there are some big changes. The titled is being changed from The Snow Queen to Frozen, likely following the Tangled trend of avoiding girl-centric words like "Princess" in the title to attract younger boys. It's verified the film will be shot for 3D and very likely will be CG (only one source has confirmed it so far).

What do you think? Are fairy tales only bankable now if they don't seem to market the movie to girls? Are things looking less promising for the future of hand-drawn animation? What liberties do you think they'll take with the story? How much of the Christian symbolism can they avoid (the demon's mirror, Gerda's prayers)?

Lame that they're changing the title but I'd rather take a changed title over no film at all. I was able to see some production art for this at SIGGRAPH, although they might change some things from production to final film obviously. (Like Rapunzel's room, her dress, how she had a squirrel friend and fairies/pixies).

We weren't bound not to say what we saw, we just couldn't photograph/video the artwork. What I did see was storyboards with the Queen and what appeared to be a comic-relief Snowman lackey. Gerda was a younger girl (not a teen) with dark tan/brown Caucasian skin and brown hair. Eyes were brown too. We got to see two magical old ladies, one tall, one short concocting some magics.

Of course all that could change! But if anyone wants to know some of what I saw, there you have it. :)

This year. :)

Actually, the storyboard was not at SIGGRAPH, it was in class. So maybe it wasn't the Disney Snow Queen (I'm an animation studennt). I wonder if it was Disney's Snow Queen or not. But the stuff I saw at SIGGRAPH regarding Greta, the old ladies, etc. was definitely production art Disney showed.

Sorry for the extra comment. XD Here's the storyboards I saw in class: http://progresscityusa.com/2009/12/21/let-it-snow-queen/

The rest was at SIGGRAPH which won't be found online. :C
