Disney.com Princess Dress-Up Dolls: Pocahontas
I think I've set a personal record - the day after finding out about Pocahontas's page going up on the Disney Princess website I started and then finished her dress set! Well, well!

Coming clean, Pocahontas has a special little nook in my heart and I know precisely why - her movie was being advertised when I was most susceptible to mainstream marketing (approximately 8-9 years old). I didn't even see the movie in theaters but I had all sorts of Pocahontas merchandise. The older me is less media-malleable but still holds Poca dear to her crooked little heart.

Some may be wondering - where's Mulan? Mulan's page has been up for months. Where's the action on that?

There is a difference between my finishing Poca's dress set so quickly VS. Mulan's - Pocahontas's outfits were really easy to put together. I don't know if I'm somehow predisposed and that made it easier, or more likely because Pocahontas only had like 6 hats/accessories which cuts down on variation. But I know I'm being a bore - so I'll finish and post Mulan's set by Friday. Sound good :D?

Lotsa leaves... Oh, wait - those are feathers? Wait, what?!

Nice muff.

... And then this happened...

Like a Midwestern housewife dress! Oh my!

I'm really lovin' this Pow Wow dress! Very festive!

The necklaces were huge - it took me a while to figure out their proper usage.

The One-Shoulder Dress With GIANT FEATHERS!

The One-Shoulder Dress With Moderately-Sized Feathers.

She Looks So Naked in... Whatever This Is.

This dress seems v. Southwestern...
Except Poca lives in Coastal Virginia :/

Does this strike anyone else as being particularly out of the 1920's?
And with all that clothing, shouldn't she be wearing shoes?

This number strikes me as a battle dress
For no particular reason :D

IDK anymore... I just... IDK.
With the headscarf and the green/orange color scheme...

The only dress that struck me as actually being made out of deerskin.

This dress pretty matched nothing
But I still love it :D

NOW I understand where she got the pink and blue and purple dyes for her clothes - from the wind!

Most of these are pretty nice, though.

The Pow Wow dress is beautiful. But oh my, the stereotypical patterns! I'm almost half Native American, and I see those patterns everywhere. Heh. But the Battle Dress, as you call it xD, is...interesting :D

But oh my, the stereotypical patterns!

Upon seeing each dress I always thought the same thing: "And here we have more diamond patterns." At least Pocahontas got more colors than some of the other Princesses >.>

I think my Battle Dress impression comes mostly from those boots. You get the feeling she could do damage in those things XD

these are gorgeous and really inventive!

I repeat my earlier comment:

I don't think the phrase "Paint with all the colors of the wind" meant LITERAL paint. x3 Or fabric dye in some cases. Some of them are cute, however.

Some of these outfits are really nice and really creative, but I really have to wonder: considering the kinds of celebrations traditional in Native American culture, what occasion would she have to wear some of those dresses that look more like ballgowns? It's not like she'll be waltzing anywhere, unless she goes into Jamestown or visits England for whatever reason, and I seriously wonder if they'll reference them, in the games. XD;;; Some really are beautiful, though, like the orange dress with the feather in her hand and the feather-pendant necklace and the fourth one with the green and orange-trimmed white dress. :3

Because why should Pocahontas stick to the clothing style of just one tribe?!?! Who cares if she was on the East Coast, those Plains Indians had such badass clothes, why shouldn't she wear their style?

Right? Right? :-DDDDDD

I really need one of princealia's icons right now. Preferably the one where Jasmine looks all deranged and is like "Sparkles and rainbows!!!" or whatever it says. XD

It looks like some Aztecs and the Europeans got ahold of her wardrobe xD

That third one up from the bottom, though, with the snake skin headscarf...Pocahontas is going GANGSTA. WINGAPO, BITCHES.

Honestly, with what disney has done to some of the other girls, this isn't so bad. I like it.

I like these, and I'm overjoyed to see Pocahontas get some attention. *^^*

I really love this one, though; the knee-high boots and pastel colours are incredible.

'specially the giant turkey. WHAT DID HE EVER DO TO YOU? ;_;
river_naiad: wendy_ooh!river_naiad on August 14th, 2009 07:09 am (UTC)
I know! I guess she was inspired by Jasmine's Big Bird outfit and decided to make a turkey version. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3608/3598281832_8211af1173_b.jpg
The positive thing about these oufits is that we see she wasn't made to wear castoffs from the other princesses! (Or the girls weren't in a sharing mood.) Though she might have stolen the muff from one of the girl's wardrobes. :D I also give her an A+ for color. I think she's the only one brave enough to wear lime green. XD
